An EID survey is available for sheep and goat producers in Tasmania.

The investigation project is funded through a $1 million Tasmanian Government commitment to support the development of the red meat industry.

Part of the project is a survey which is seeking input from sheep and goat producers. Producers are invited to complete the short online survey to provide their views on the introduction of electronic ear tags as well as information regarding any current use of electronic ear tags in sheep enterprises.

The survey is being conducted by independent consultants, Lee Beattie and Warren Straw, and all feedback collected will be confidential and reported back to industry anonymously.

The results of this survey will help to determine how the industry will move forward with sheep and goat traceability.

TFGA chief executive officer, Hugh Christie, said the importance of livestock traceability has been central to discussions on how Tasmania and Australia would respond to potential biosecurity outbreaks.

"This survey will be critical to informing both industry and government consideration of the best approach to improving traceability in the sheep and goat sectors and I would consider everyone involved in the industry to complete the survey," Christie said.
