SEVERAL side-by-side vehicle manufacturers and the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) have developed a new safety website and video to encourage owners to improve safety outcomes.

Side-by-side sales have been increasing in recent years in Australia, and unfortunately the FCAI is starting to see an increase in the number of injuries associated with these vehicles when they are not used in accordance with the manufacturer's safety advice.

Data provided by the National Coronial Information Systems (NCIS) shows that the users involved in fatal crashes are not using the seatbelts, doors or helmets as per the manufacturer's advice and safety warnings.

Tony Weber, chief executive officer of the FCAI said: "With the recent increase in side-by-sides for work and recreational purposes, manufacturers want to ensure all users understand the side-by-side features and are well versed in the safe use of these machines."

In response, the FCAI has produced a side-by-side safety video which sets out best safety practices and advice on how to use the vehicle as intended.

The safety video can also be found on the Side by Side safety website along with driving tips and links to further information.

Manufacturers BRP, Honda, Kawasaki and Yamaha will be promoting safe use practices through the new website and in conjunction with their dealers.
