Insect pests are one of the biggest threats to grain in storage and while there are effective chemical options to disinfect grain, aeration can go a long way to maintaining the quality of grain in storage by reducing grain temperatures and providing uniform moisture levels. With sufficiently high levels of airflow, grain can even be dried with aeration. Working with Peter Botta, Philip Burrill and Chris Warrick from the GRDC grain storage extension team, Ben White looks at how grain quality can be preserved in storage.
