The Kondinin Group research team of Mark Saunders, Ben White and Josh Giumelli have been at the massive display in Hanover to see what's new and look at the latest trends.

The rise of autonomous vehicles is clearly noticeable, with dozens of examples of driverless technology now available, both in swarm (small) scale and in larger wheeled and tracked platforms.

Electrification is also a new trend when it comes to power generation in tractors, for example.

John Deere displayed some this technology at its Future Technology Zone where the company showcased nine research and development prototypes focused on automation, electrification and artificial intelligence.

The automation display focused on ways machines could perform certain operations in the field with minimal human assistance.

The electrification portion focused on replacing mechanical and hydraulic components to make machines more efficient and productive while supporting emission-free farming and a reduced carbon footprint.

The only gold medal for innovation awarded at Agritechnica went to John Deere's eAutoPower transmission, the first electro-mechanical power split transmission that makes tractor-implement electrification possible.

Kondinin Group will be reporting on Agritechnica in detail in the January 2020 edition of the Farming Ahead magazine.

A growing series of reports, each focused on a key discussion point for the farming sector, brought to you by the Kondinin team.
