Bill Byrne resigns after being diagnosed with heart disease

Minister for State Development, Natural Resources and Mines, Anthony Lynham will serve as the acting Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Economic Development in the interim. 

Lynham is expected to remain in the position until the state election which can be called at any time between now and May 2018.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the Byrne would not recontest the seat of Rockhampton at the next State election, but will serve the remainder of this term in the Parliament.

“Bill Byrne has been advised that his condition is life-threatening, and he will undertake more tests in Brisbane next week,” Premier Palaszczuk said.

“I know with the arrival of their first grandson Wyatt has brought so much joy to Bill and his wife Kim. They are looking forward to the arrival of a second grandchild in the New Year,” she said.
