Ros reports that most of it had to be re-seeded and while the re-seeded crop went well, ongoing heavy rain through the growing and ripening season did present some challenges when it came to windrowing and harvesting.
The Honeybee front which can be adapted for windrowing was fitted to the Gleaner R72 and canola windrowing was underway until the inevitable happened when James found a patch that wasn’t quite dry enough to carry the harvester.
James and Ros suffered a heavy frost event three years ago and from that event had a healthy supply of around 4000 tyres in the shed which were used to cover the canola silage.
Laying the tyres down around and forward of the drive-wheels, like a recovery track as used by avid 4WD fans, along with two or three pulls of the tractor, recovered the harvester and got James underway again.
Needless to say, with more late-season rain at Condobolin, at the time of writing, the paddock had still not been harvested.
