The new factory-endorsed, stretched utes are known as the XL and XXL and have been developed in conjunction with Volkswagen Group Australia's (VGA) Body Builder Program.
The program sees Volkswagen vehicles customised by a group of recognised converters, who must meet strict build and quality standards set by Volkswagen's own factory and be backed by VGA's own five-year warranty.
The first Amarok conversions to feature as part of the program, the Amarok XL and XXL have been constructed by Netherlands partner, Veth Automotive. It has partnered with Adelaide firm Adaptive Automotive to undertake subsequent conversions.
Uniquely, all Amarok XL/XXL variants come with Electronic Stability Control (ESC) reprogramming designed to compensate for the longer wheelbase. In addition there are three centre of gravity height programs as part of the ESC to compensate for additional conversions.
Other features of the Amarok XL and XXL are a build based on the four cylinder and V6, Dual Cab 4Motion MT and AT models, more load space and the option of chassis or utility models. Rear diff lock is standard.
The XL version Dual Cab has an internal tray length of 1865mm, up from 1555m on the standard Dual Cab.
Pricing for the conversions vary from $10,595 incl GST to $22,000 depending on the model.
