There are four models in the range; the 1038 (396hp), 1042 (435hp), 1046 (476hp) and the range-topping 1050 with peak power of 517hp or 380kW. Each model is also available in three levels of specification; PowerPlus, Profi and ProfiPlus.

All four tractors are powered by a six-cylinder, 12.4 litre MAN diesel engine which sees the 1050 punching out 2400Nm of torque at just 1100 engine revs.

Apart from the massive power on hand in these rigid-frame, all-wheel-drive tractors, Fendt fans will notice a new paint colour, called Native Green, which is deeper and a little more shiny than the traditional lighter-green Fendt paint.

As with other high horsepower Fendts, the 1000 series uses Selective Catalytic Reduction to comply with Tier 4 final emissions standards which means the tractor needs AdBlue as well as diesel. Fuel tank capacity is 800 litres while the AdBlue tank can hold 85 litres.

Fendt has retained its famous Vario stepless transmission in the 1000 series which allows speeds of 0.02 to 60km/h.

However the latest iteration of the transmission is the VarioDrive which allows both front and rear axles to be driven independently, rather than the more traditional approach for four-wheel-drives which have a fixed torque ratio between the front and rear axles.

For the 1050, 60km/h is achieved at 1450rpm while 40km/h is at a miserly 950rpm.

Standard hydraulic oil flow rate is 165litres a minute but the 1000 series can be boosted to 430 litres/min through two independent circuits.

Maximum weight for the 1050 for 60km/h is 18 tonnes while the tractor can be ballasted to 23 tonnes with a top speed of 40km/h.

Expect to pay about $500,000 incl GST for the Fendt 1050 in PowerPlus specification. The June edition of Farming Ahead will have more details on the Fendt 100 series.
