Japanese drone tech comes to Australia

Japan’s leading UAV provider, Terra Drone recently established an office in Brisbane – a decision Queensland Trade and Investment Minister Jackie Trad attributed to Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk’s trade mission to Japan in November last year.

Terra Drone uses UAV solutions that deliver advanced accuracy within 3cm and 3D models with high definition by utilising the most advanced LiDAR laser scanning sensors in the market.

The advanced technology can also be applied to Australia’s mining, energy and other industries; however its ability to capture data and map makes it valuable to farmers investing in drones.

While it is active in precision agriculture, it is also relevant in the fields of disaster relief, obstacle avoidance and UAV fleet management.

Brisbane branch chief, Tsuyoshi Honda, said the company had launched in Australia due to the nation’s drone-friendly policy framework.

“Modern technology such as UAVs is vital to ensure Australia maintains its competitive edge internationally and enhances productivity,” Honda said.

In Japan, Terra Drone has partnerships with leading mining and construction companies including Hitachi, providing fully automated UAV surveying and data analysis of construction sites. It is currently experimenting with land surveying at US-based construction sites.
